Position: Controller

C2NC is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the finance and accounting function at its renewable natural gas (RNG) facility in Warsaw, North Carolina. This is an opportunity to build the financial foundation of a growth-stage energy company: the Warsaw facility is the first of several projects planned nationwide, and the Controller will help shape the finance function as the platform grows.

About C2NC

C2NC operates one of the largest utility-scale anaerobic digestion facilities in North America, converting agricultural and other organic wastes into pipeline-grade renewable natural gas. By partnering with many of the region's largest food producers, C2NC provides an environmentally responsible alternative to conventional waste disposal while producing utility scale clean natural gas. All RNG produced at the facility is sold to Duke Energy and BP under long-term offtake contracts.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Controller is responsible for C2NC's accounting, financial reporting, cash management, tax compliance, internal controls, plant-level reporting, and budgeting and forecasting. The Controller will lead the accounting/finance function while remaining actively involved in the day-to-day work. The role works closely with executive leadership and plant operations, interacts with C2NC's Board of Managers and outside advisors, and supports reporting to lenders and investors. This is a full-time position that requires routine on-site presence at the Warsaw facility, with flexibility for remote work as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounting operations: Lead day-to-day accounting, including the general ledger, month-end and year-end close, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, billing, fixed assets, and bank reconciliations.

  • Financial reporting: Prepare timely, accurate financial statements, management reports, variance analyses, and plant-level operating metrics for executive leadership and the Board of Managers.

  • Cash management: Own cash forecasting, working capital planning, and vendor payment timing to maintain liquidity and meet obligations.

  • Budgeting and forecasting: Lead the annual budget and periodic forecasts in partnership with executive leadership and plant operations, and provide analysis that supports operational decisions.

  • Internal controls: Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, approval workflows, documentation, and internal controls to support accuracy, accountability, and audit readiness.

  • Financing and compliance: Oversee accounting for affiliated entities and intercompany activity, monitor debt compliance and other financing-related commitments, and prepare lender, investor, and bank reporting.

  • Audit, tax, and insurance: Coordinate the annual audit, tax compliance, insurance renewals, and other compliance reporting with external auditors, insurance brokers, and advisors.

  • Team leadership: Manage, coach, and develop accounting staff and outsourced accounting resources, and scale the finance function as the company adds projects.

  • Human resources: Coordinate HR administration and benefit management and renewal with the company's external Professional Employer Organization (PEO).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 10+ years of relevant progressive accounting and financial management experience, including general ledger, financial statement close, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, and internal controls.

  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, account reconciliations, and audit support.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a finance and accounting function while personally executing daily work in a hands-on, growth-stage environment.

  • Ability to translate operational activity into clear financial reporting, cash-flow visibility, and actionable business insights.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a collaborative approach to working with operations, executive leadership, vendors, auditors, lenders, investors, and other external partners.

  • Proficiency with accounting systems, Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), bank portals, payroll platforms, accounts payable workflows, reporting tools, and shared document-management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation.

  • Accounting or financial leadership experience in manufacturing, renewable energy, utilities, oil and gas, refining, or another plant-based operating environment.

  • Experience with debt-financed or multi-entity structures, including intercompany accounting, debt compliance, and lender and investor reporting.

  • Experience building and managing accounting teams and outsourced accounting providers.
