Position: Senior Accountant

C2NC is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to support the finance and accounting function at its renewable natural gas (RNG) facility in Warsaw, North Carolina. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will maintain accurate financial records, help drive the monthly close, and provide timely, reliable financial information to management.

About C2NC

C2NC operates one of the largest utility-scale anaerobic digestion facilities in North America, converting agricultural and other organic wastes into pipeline-grade renewable natural gas. By partnering with many of the region's largest food producers, C2NC provides an environmentally responsible alternative to conventional waste disposal while producing utility scale clean natural gas. All RNG produced at the facility is sold to Duke Energy and BP under long-term offtake contracts.

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for the general ledger, account reconciliations, the month-end and year-end close, fixed assets, accounts payable and receivable, financial and operational reporting, and audit preparation. The role works closely with the Controller and plant operations to keep accounting records accurate and meet the company's financial and operating reporting requirements. This is a full-time position that requires routine on-site presence at the Warsaw facility, with flexibility for remote work as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • General accounting: Prepare journal entries, maintain general ledger accounts, and complete account and bank reconciliations.

  • Month-end close: Support the monthly and year-end close, including preparing accruals and maintaining close schedules and supporting documentation.

  • Financial reporting: Prepare and assist with financial statements, management reports, variance analyses, and plant-level operating reports.

  • Accounts payable and receivable: Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and customer billing, including vendor activity and related reconciliations.

  • Fixed assets: Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, additions, disposals, and reconciliations.

  • Budgeting and forecasting: Assist the Controller with annual budgeting, periodic forecasting, and budget-to-actual analysis.

  • Intercompany accounting: Record and reconcile intercompany transactions and related balances.

  • Cash and working capital: Support cash forecasting, monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable activity, and provide analysis of working-capital requirements to the Controller.

  • Audit and tax: Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for annual audits, income and property tax compliance, Form 1099 reporting, and other regulatory requirements.

  • Internal controls: Maintain accounting documentation and support established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Special projects and process improvement: Identify and implement improvements to close processes, reporting, internal controls, and system workflows, and assist the Controller with financial analysis and other projects as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of relevant, progressive accounting experience, including general ledger, account reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.

  • Solid working knowledge of U.S. GAAP.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hands-on, fast-paced operating environment; manage multiple priorities; meet recurring close and reporting deadlines; and communicate clearly with finance, operations, vendors, and management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA or progress toward CPA licensure.

  • Accounting experience in manufacturing, renewable energy, utilities, oil and gas, refining, agriculture, or another plant-based operating environment.

  • Experience with fixed asset and multi-entity or intercompany accounting.

  • Experience supporting external audits.

  • Experience in accounting system implementations or conversions.
